I teach the Early Childhood Education Pathway at Social Circle High School and have done so for the past 7 years. I love being a part of Social Circle Schools and the Community! This is my twenty fourth year as a high school teacher. Each year my students are learning about the world of young children including their social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. They are also learning how to be great teachers or developing skills to work with children in some capacity. ECE II & III students further their knowledge and skills, as they manage and teach preschool.
Even as a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. When I went to kindergarten, I would go home and have my pretend students practice pointing to the correct letters on my little chalkboard. I had a bulletin board in my bedroom that I decorated each month, just like my teachers in elementary school did. On weekends and summer days, a good friend of mine and I would haul our "school playing stuff" back and forth to each other's houses, depending on whose house would be the pretend school that day.
I have always loved being around young children! I began babysitting for the neighbors' children at the young age of twelve! During high school, I continued babysitting, but I also served in several leadership roles in 4-H, student council, Y club and other clubs. Through being involved in extracurricular activities, I realized I wanted a career in which I could work with high school students either as a 4-H extension agent or a high school teacher. So, I entered the University of Georgia and obtained a bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education. Due to a great experience student teaching with an awesome home economics teacher, I decided that my long ago love for teaching was my calling!
I have a wonderful family including my husband, Mike and our children, Caroline and Daniel. Caroline is also a teacher, and teaches 4th grade. Daniel is a recent UGA Law School graduate and has already begun working in the field. I am also the very proud owner of a toy poodle named Bear. My family and I enjoy spending time together whether we are traveling or just talking with each other. They have always been a huge help with my school endeavors!
I am super excited about the Early Childhood Education Pathway at Social Circle High School! My students are doing a fantastic job of applying what they have learned about child development and teaching while providing creative and educational activities for the preschoolers in our program. I absolutely love getting to work with both high school and preschool students, and I am extremely proud of them!
