Substitute Teachers

Our substitute teachers play an important role in supporting students, classrooms, and school communities each day. What are the qualifications for becoming a Substitute Teacher?

  • Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Applicants must have a clear GCIC criminal background screening 
  • Applicants must successfully complete a Substitute Training session
  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

How to Become a Substitute Teacher

  • Go to the Social Circle City Schools' website and complete an application for Substitute Teacher. Applications are processed once a month, and Human Resources will contact you with the next steps if your application is accepted. 
  • Register for and complete the required substitute training via the Northeast Georgia RESA - online or in-person training
    • Certified Teachers: If you hold a current or expired teaching certificate, email a copy to Human Resources to be exempt from the training requirement.
    • Out-of-District Training: If you have already completed substitute training in another school district, please notify Human Resources so we can review if it meets our requirements.
  • Board of Education Approval: Once your background check is cleared and your training documentation is received, your name will be submitted to the Board of Education for final employment approval.
  • Following Board approval, Human Resources will notify you that you are officially cleared to begin substituting.
