What are the qualifications for becoming a Substitute Teacher?
- Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Applicants must have a clear GCIC criminal background screening
- Applicants must successfully complete a Substitute Training session
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
How to Become a Substitute Teacher
- Go to the Social Circle City Schools' website and complete an application for Substitute Teacher. Applications are processed once a month, and Human Resources will contact you with the next steps if your application is accepted.
- Register for and complete the required substitute training via the Northeast Georgia RESA - online or in-person training
- Certified Teachers: If you hold a current or expired teaching certificate, email a copy to Human Resources to be exempt from the training requirement.
- Out-of-District Training: If you have already completed substitute training in another school district, please notify Human Resources so we can review if it meets our requirements.
- Board of Education Approval: Once your background check is cleared and your training documentation is received, your name will be submitted to the Board of Education for final employment approval.
- Following Board approval, Human Resources will notify you that you are officially cleared to begin substituting.
