Section 504
Section 504 is part of a federal civil rights law that protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination. It comes from the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and applies to both children and adults. This law laid the foundation for later disability rights laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and it was updated again in 2008 to define how schools support students.
Simply put: Section 504 makes sure students with disabilities get what they need to learn, grow, and succeed—just like their peers.
