2023-2024 GMAS Results
The Georgia Milestones assessments for the 2023-2024 school year have been released. Administered statewide in April and May 2024, these standardized tests evaluate student performance in core academic subjects. Students in grades 3-8 take the End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments, while high schoolers complete End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in designated courses. Student achievement is measured across four levels: Beginning Learner, Developing Learner, Proficient Learner, and Distinguished Learner.
Social Circle City Schools (SCCS) has many reasons to celebrate. The results show that SCCS students improved the percentage of students who scored “Proficient Learner & Above” within each of the four academic subject areas at the secondary and elementary school levels. Overall, students made improvements in 10 of the 12 tested subject areas in English Language Arts (ELA), Science, and Social Studies. While there were two areas in which SCCS scores did not improve from the previous school year, 5th-grade science continued to outperform the state for the second year in a row, and 3rd-grade ELA students made improvements as a cohort from the previous school year. In 5th-grade ELA, SCCS students showed the most growth of any cohort of 30 students or more in the state of Georgia, with a median Student Growth Percentile (SGP) of 73.0.
Note: Because math assessments were updated to align with new K-12 Mathematics Standards first implemented during the 2023-24 school year, Georgia Milestones math scores will be available for release later this fall.
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) reports that students showed continued improvement on the 2023-24 Georgia Milestones assessments – scores increased or held steady on ten of the statewide assessments.
“I am proud of Georgia’s students and educators for their continued hard work, which has led to consistent improvements in student performance over the last several years,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “As a state, we have invested in academic recovery and the supports districts need to get all students on track for successful futures. There is certainly still work to be done, but I am confident we are on the right path.”
The recent public release of the data compares Social Circle City Schools with the state of Georgia.
