Social Work

School Social Workers play a vital role in connecting home, school, and community to support student success. They collaborate with school staff, families, and community agencies to remove barriers that impact learning, promote student well-being, and empower families with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Our social workers focus on building relationships and providing direct support to help every student feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

How School Social Workers Support Students and Families

  • Social and Emotional Support: Individual or small-group sessions focused on coping skills, relationships, and emotional wellness.
  • Housing Insecurity and Homelessness (McKinney-Vento Program): Assistance for families experiencing unstable housing or homelessness.
  • Community and Mental Health Resources: Referrals and coordination with local agencies to provide additional support services.
  • Foster Care Point of Contact: Liaison between the district, DFCS, and schools to ensure continuity and support for students in foster care.
  • Attendance Monitoring and Truancy Prevention: Collaboration with families to address attendance barriers and improve student engagement.
  • Skills for Success Lessons: Classroom and small-group lessons that build resilience, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
