Pre-K Information

"Bright from the Start" refers to the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, a state agency responsible for overseeing and regulating child care and early education programs for children in Georgia, including the well-known "Georgia's Pre-K" program.

All content taught in our Pre-K classrooms is based on the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS).

SCCS Pre-K classrooms also implement the state-approved Frog Street curriculum, along with the use of Heggerty and Fundations curricula to provide an introduction to phonics and phonemic awareness.

A student must be four years of age on or before September 1st of the enrolling school year.

Families interested in Georgia Pre-K at Social Circle Elementary School must complete the district’s online Pre-K lottery registration form during the annual application window. 

Please note: Submitting a Pre-K lottery application does not guarantee placement. After the lottery process is complete, families will be notified whether their child has been offered a spot in the program or placed on a waiting list.

Families who experience difficulty completing the online registration due to technology issues may contact the school for assistance.

Pre-K Spots are filled using a random drawing in the following order:

• Priority 1 Spots: Students living with their parent or guardian within the Social Circle City School (SCCS) District limits or within the Zone 5 area with a signed agreement (see here for more information).
• Priority 2 Spots: Students with approved SCCS Out-of-District siblings (living in the same home) that will continue to attend a SCCS school during the upcoming school year.
• Priority 3 Spots: Students living outside of the SCCS district limits.

Any remaining children are drawn in the same way and placed on a waiting list.

Families will be notified of their child’s placement status after the Pre-K lottery process has been completed. Notification occurs shortly after the lottery drawing and may include placement in the program or placement on a waiting list.

Families must provide accurate and current contact information during registration. Notification is primarily shared by email, so a valid email address is strongly recommended. Families without email access may provide a phone number to ensure communication can still occur.

If Your Child Is Selected for GA Pre-K at SCES

☐ Review the welcome email for important instructions and deadlines
☐ Complete online student registration 
☐ Attend a scheduled in-person registration appointment at the SCCS Administrative Building
☐ Bring the original required documents listed in the welcome email
☐ Contact the school promptly if you are unable to attend your assigned appointment to make alternate arrangements

• A copy of your child’s Certificate of Live Birth
• Proof of Residence
  • You will need copies of TWO documents (containing the name of the parent or legal guardian with whom your child resides): 
    • 1) Property Rental, Lease Agreement, or Mortgage Contract 
    • 2) Utility Bill (electric or gas with service address clearly listed). 

-If you are the legal guardian of a child, you must bring guardianship documents containing the name and address of the custodial person. 
-If you live with a family member, you must have them complete the district's Residency Affidavit and provide both forms of documentation for proof of residence.)

• A copy of your child’s Social Security card
• A copy of your driver’s license

Registration paperwork will not be accepted without the above documents.
 

• A copy of Proof of Immunization (Form 3231, Revised 3/2007) (submit before September 1)
• A copy of the Hearing, Vision, Dental, and Nutrition Form (Form 3300) (submit before October 20)

These forms will not be completed until your child’s four-year-old well-child check-up. Please schedule your child’s four-year-old well-child check-up appointment ASAP. Many pediatricians will not complete the dental portion of Form 3300. You will either need to schedule an appointment with your child’s dentist or go to the Health Department to have this portion of the form completed. We will begin asking for this documentation during the first week of school. If the documentation is not submitted within the GA Pre-K required time deadlines, we are required to begin disenrollment procedures. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.

Georgia's Pre-K program operates just like a school classroom. Parents commit to sending their child to school for the complete day throughout the school year. Children can be unenrolled for being chronically tardy in the morning or being picked up prior to the end of the instructional day.

Regular and consistent pre-kindergarten attendance is required. If your student is absent more than two days per month without medical or other reasonable explanation and/or departs early or arrives late more than once a week, your student can be removed from the program.
