We are in the Spring semester of the 2019-2020 school year and many exciting things are taking place in our school district. Our Governance team (also known as School Board) and the Social Circle City Council engaged in our annual January retreat. During this retreat, our team walked away with a strong commitment to having high expectations for all students and to becoming a consistently high performing school district. We are fortunate to have seven members of our Governance team who are committed to this community and having a vision that will empower our students to be competitive globally. Please visit our school district website at www.socialcircleschools.com to view the great work of the Governance team during our monthly meetings.
In moving our district to the next level, we are in the process of completing our five-year strategic plan. The Georgia School Board Association (GSBA) and the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) are supporting this effort. The first two sessions of the strategic planning process, community input, and planning meetings were well attended by our stakeholders. They shared valuable information that will help us to accelerate the upward trajectory of the school district. We are planning to approve the final strategic plan for 2020 - 2025 in June. This blueprint will provide our faculty and staff with the goals and timelines necessary to improve student achievement.
Our administrators are honing their skills as instructional leaders as we participate in a book study of Leverage Leadership: A Practical Guide to Building Exceptional Schools, written by Paul Bambrick-Santoyo. All of our local school and district level administrators are actively participating in Collaborative Planning sessions with teachers in our schools. Our presence in these meetings, allows opportunities to more efficiently provide essential knowledge and resources to our teaching staff. This process has allowed administrators to be more aware of what our teachers know, where they need to grow, and what they need to be successful.
Social Circle City Schools District certainly has a lot to be proud of! Recently, Brianna Groves received a United States Army ROTC 3-Year Scholarship that is only awarded to 5 students in the state! She plans to use the scholarship to continue her studies at the University of Georgia where she is currently dually enrolled and completing her senior year of high school. Jackson Davis, Varsity Rifle Team Captain, was selected to compete in the 2020 Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the Olympic Training Village. He is the second Social Circle rifle team member to earn the prestigious invitation to compete at this level. Our swim team and boys basketball teams finished better than ever before in our school’s history! The swim team finished with 5 state qualifiers and Maddie Hope qualified for the state finals in two events. The Boys Basketball team finished with an overall record of 20-8 and 12-3 in Region 8AA. The team finished as Region Runner Ups and hosted the 1st round of the GHSA State Playoffs. We look forward to continued success for all of our students as we round out this school year.
