Welcome to my web site! I am so excited to be returning to "The Circle" this year as the Healthcare Science Teacher.
Just a little about me...
I grew up in neighboring Morgan County and attended Morgan County High School. I started out college at the University of Georgia where I studied pre-nursing and, at the same time, attended Athens Tech at night to get certified as a Nursing Assistant. I wanted to make sure that nursing was what I truly wanted to pursue before investing 4 years of time and money into a nursing degree. While attending the University of Georgia, I worked at Walton County Hospital on the weekends as a Nursing Assistant. I transfered to the Medical College of Georgia (AKA Georgia Regents University) after my freshman year to attend Nursing School and graduated in 1981 with a BS in nursing and was licensed as a Registered Nurse after passing the State Board Exam soon after graduation. I then married and moved to Austin, Texas, where I worked in a variety of nursing areas including minor emergency, urology, antepartum, postpartum, OB recovery and newborn nursery. In 1988, my family and I returned to Georgia where I worked at Newton General Hospital in Labor and Delivery and at Saint Mary's Hospital in community outreach and education. In 1993, I was contacted by Morgan County High School to see if I might be interested in starting a Health Occupations Program. I was always interested in patient and staff education and looked at this new opportunity as an exciting challenge. During the 12 years that followed I developed the Health Occupations Program at Morgan County High School including CNA certification and received my Masters Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. This is currently my 6th year at Social Circle High School.
My goal for the year is to introduce students to a variety of careers in healthcare, teach them a varitey of healthcare and work related skills that they can use thoughout their life regardless of what career path they choose, and give those students who would like to pursue a career in healthcare to become certified as a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician or both.
I plan to use this web site to improve communication between myself and the students as well as give parents an opportunity to become involved in their child's education. I encourage both students and parents to email me with questions or concerns at firstname.lastname@example.org
I am looking forward to a great year, it has gotten off to a wonderful start!
