We hope that you are doing well during these stressful and uncertain times. We are deeply saddened by the news that we will not be able to reopen our schools this year. However, we are encouraged by our students’ eagerness to continue learning during school closure. We are aware that many of our students are not able to access the internet and are taking advantage of the opportunity to work on paper to continue to grow academically. Our teachers have communicated that they are enjoying getting to know our students in ways that are different than in the classroom. Additionally, they have noted that some students who do not frequently participate in face to face classrooms seem to be more comfortable expressing themselves in an online environment. While we are developing innovative solutions, we are working to ensure that our processes and procedures provide the greatest benefit to our students. Please note the updated information below regarding grading and catch up days.
Governor Kemp announced his decision today that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. We will update Social Circle families as soon as possible about how we will continue to take care of our students. We appreciate your patience as we work to make the best out of this difficult situation. We would like to thank the staff and school board members for their unfailing support for the success and welfare of all of our students. We will get through this together.

This is a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected school board plays in our communities and schools. They are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing our school district. Their actions and decisions affect the present and future lives of our children. Recognizing board members for this commitment and sacrifice takes a combined effort on the part of all those they serve: administrators, school staff, students, and the community. Even though showing appreciation should be a year-round process, we wanted to take this moment to tell them just how much we appreciate all that they do.

With regards to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-2019), district officials are following the guidance from the Georgia Department of Public Health and has directed principals, clinic staff, and front office staff that if someone presents to the school with known symptoms, AND they have traveled to a known country impacted by Coronavirus in the past two weeks (i.e. China), that the individual and their family should seek medical attention from a healthcare provider.
