Our Mission
The mission of the

Social Circle City Schools
is to provide a premier education
for all students.

Social Circle Elementary Paraprofessional, Debra Rakestraw, has recently earned the designation of Certified Communities in Schools Site Director. Debra participated in online classes for nine months and is now one of only three Certified Site Directors in the state of Georgia.  She is one of 49 in the nation.

Communities in Schools is the nation’s largest drop-out prevention program. Its goal is to support youth and to improve graduation rates, academic achievement, and job and post-secondary school readiness.   Their philosophy focuses on building a supportive environment for children and youth to help them thrive and to be successful.

We are proud of Debra’s commitment to this program and to our Social Circle Elementary School students and families.

Social Circle Elementary School has just been awarded $4000 from the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc. for Fuel Up to Play 60.  According to their website, “Fuel Up to Play 60 is the in-school nutrition and physical activity program founded by National Dairy Council® (NDC) and the National Football League, based on a mutual commitment to the health of the next generation.  This comprehensive program focuses on promoting healthier eating and more physical activity opportunities school-wide. Students and adults work together to select and implement a series of "Plays" that result in long-term changes in these two important areas. Along the way, students become empowered to lead – by making healthy decisions, taking action for change and encouraging their friends to do the same.  Katheryn Banks, School Nutrition and Student Services Director, worked closely with the other members of the Wellness Committee, including School Counselor Susan Whiten, School Nurse Judy Knight, Parent Involvement Coordinator Yolondias Colquitt, Communities in Schools Site Coordinator Debra Rakestraw, Media Specialist Pam Wimpey, Paraprofessional Stacie Wallace, Cafeteria Manager Grace Sanford, and Principal Jodi Weber.”

Social Circle Primary School and Social Circle Elementary School were two of the top 20 winners in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge for the second year in a row.  The competition focused on helping students build healthy habits by incorporating regular physical activity into their schedule.  Students were required to keep track of their daily activity and show that they were active for at least 15 minutes every day.  Students at both schools will be treated to a Radio Disney Dance Party during the month of January.
